In 2 Kings, God’s people turn away from Him and are carried off into captivity. This painting is vertical to depict the divided two kingdoms (north and south). In the north, Israel had 12 kings (12 crowns), and in the south, Judah had 16 kings (16 crowns). Both kingdoms slid into idolatry (gold calves, Baal, etc.) and corruption.
But two kings, Hezekiah and Josiah, were God-fearing (as represented by the two white crowns). Even in the midst of terrible situations, God will have His faithful remnant. God asks us to go against the flow, to stand out and to proclaim His truth. It isn’t easy or popular, but God desires courageous men and women to be His faithful minority.
