Genesis begins with God (the yellow line). He is the light in the darkness and spoke everything into existence. Each of the lines moving upward is a day that God created. The top flat line is when He rested. The painting shows the strong contrast between the beautiful creation and God’s presence (what God had intended for us to enjoy) and the darkness and separation from God (which man’s independence ruined). Then the rest of the painting is the long hard struggle of man finding his way through life living with the consequences of his actions.
